“NO” to Aluminum Body Case for Jeep Wrangler 2017

Jeep Wrangler is one of the most popular and fastest selling vehicles in United States of America. To keep it like this, 2017 model undergoes few changes that means there will be new chassis, body and suspension. 2017 Jeep Wrangler will make its debut in late 2016 with an expected price of $25,000

Redesigning of automobiles takes a lot of time and capital of a company. Similar situation was faced by the CEO of Fiat Chrysler, namely Sergio Marchionne. Initially inspired by aluminum body of Ford F-150, Wrangler SUV for 2017 will now not be an all-aluminum SUV as planned out. According to the CEO, numbers were run, mileage was simulated and decision was made otherwise. This off road brand Wrangler will be available in a different body composition for better performance and a better fuel economy.

Jeep Wrangler considered sticking to steel for its next generation Wrangler. This 2017 model won’t be a light weight vehicle as it would have been with aluminum composition. But performance and efficiency of vehicle will be of advanced level with no compromise on its working. According to statements given to several publications by the CEO of Fiat Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne this decision of retaining steel body for Wrangler 2017 will save much more cost than the benefits attached with vehicle.

It was stated in a press conference by the CEO of company that going for an aluminum body demands the entire refitting of company’s already existing Wrangler plant, located in Toledo, Ohio. So an alternate decision was made of hanging aluminum made components on a steel body. This on the other hand does not require such large scale refurbishing.

Settlement on retaining steel body has turned out to be a very good indication for Jeep’s Toledo Assembly Plant. It is an expert at manufacturing open top jeeps and an aluminum intensive model could have been a disaster at their end.

By not opting steel body for Wrangler 2017, the company made sure that there still will be a huge portion of vehicle which will be of aluminum. Just it will not be all aluminum. It has been ensured that weight saving aluminum panels will be used on the steel body of Wrangler. It would include doors, fenders, hoof, and tailgate of aluminum.

Altogether, usage of steel in car will be minimum as promised by the company. Many trucks these days are exercising this kind of mixed materials construction. Ram 1500 is one of such assorted construction which features an aluminum hood.

Decision contrary to the earlier plans laid out for Jeep Wrangler has not been made merely on the difference in cost of materials. According to a thorough study it was observed that shifting to aluminum body will result in higher cost of the actual assembling process also. The CEO believes that company will do almost as good without doing it all aluminum.
