2016 Detroit Auto Show Sets Best Record of Attendance Since 2003

Detroit’s North American International Auto Show this year attracted 815,575 attendees that topped last year’s 803,451. The Attendance record is 838,066 from 2003. This car show organized by Detroit Auto Dealers Association also drew 5,068 credential media from 60 countries during the media preview which was on January 11 and 12.

Following the media previews, there was industry preview which according to organizers drew a record 39,788 attendees from 2000 companies and 25 countries.

Annual black-tie charity preview which held on January 15, 2016 attracted 13,075 visitors and grossed $5.2 million to benefit eight Southeast Michigan children’s charities. This event included a performance by 80’s rockers Huey Lewis and The News.

Among the celebrity visitors to 2016’s auto show were President Barack Obama and members of Detroit Tigers. Show organizers say that this small increase in visitor’s number was partially fueled by more than 70 percent of displays. All these exhibited models were redesigned this year by automakers and suppliers. Car parts of these models are now available at online auto parts superstore.

2016 North American International Auto Show generated $430 million worth of economic activity. This figure was announced by David Sowerby, portfolio manager in Bloomfield hills office of Loomis Sayles & Co.
